Jabberwocky est un film britannique de Terry Gilliam inspiré du poème Jabberwocky de Lewis Carroll, sorti en 1977.

Premier long métrage de Terry Gilliam en solo, Jabberwocky a pourtant été présenté à sa sortie sous le nom de "Monty Python's Jabberwocky". Ce n'est qu'au terme de démêlés judiciaires que les producteurs se virent interdire l'utilisation du nom des Monty Python.

Terry Gilliam utilise déjà ici de nombreux éléments qu'on retrouvera plus tard dans ses autres œuvres, autant sur le fond que sur la forme. Le côté misérable et obscur du Royaume n'a rien à envier à l'ambiance de Brazil, par exemple. Pour autant, l'humour est encore très imprégné de l'esprit des Monty Python, et la moitié de la troupe a un rôle (plus ou moins) important dans le film.

Synopsis

Le Jabberwock, bête immonde, ravage le royaume de Bruno le Contestable. Ce dernier promet la main de sa fille à celui qui réussira à tuer le monstre. Le film est l'adaptation d'un des poèmes de Lewis Carroll préférés du réalisateur.
