John Chambers est le CEO de Cisco Systems depuis janvier 1995, alors qu'il rejoint cette même société en 1991. Il a auparavant travaillé pour IBM et les laboratoires Wang.

Il possède un Bachelor of Science en commerce de l'université de West Virginia et un MBA de la Kelley school of Business de l'université d'Indiana.
