John R. Porter

John R. Porter (28 avril 1949 -) est un historien de l'art, un conservateur de musée et un professeur québécois. Il a dirigé le musée national des beaux-arts du Québec de 1993 à septembre 2008.

Natif de Lévis, il obtient sa maîtrise en histoire de l'art à l'Université Laval en 1972 alors que le programme vient d'être mis sur pied.

D'abord conservateur au musée des beaux-arts du Canada pendant les années 1970, il revient à l'enseignement pendant les années 1980 et obtient son doctorat à l'Université de Montréal en 1981.

Il a réalisé plusieurs expositions artistiques, dont une sur l'art sacré au Canada en 1984 et une autre sur Rodin en 1998. Collaborateur du Dictionnaire biographique du Canada, il est l'auteur de plus de quinze livres.
