John Marcum Wells (né le 28 mai 1956) est un réalisateur, scénariste et producteur de théâtre et de télévision américain. Il est né à Alexandria, Virginie. Il est diplômé de "Carnegie Mellon School of Drama" en 1979.

Il est connu pour ses rôles de producteur dans les séries télévisées Urgences, New York 911, À la Maison Blanche, China Beach, et plus récemment The Evidence.

Il a également travaillé sur les films Doom et White Oleander. Sa société, John Wells Productions, est située dans les studios Warner Bros. à Burbank, Californie.

Il est l'ancien président de la section ouest de la Guilde des écrivains d'Amérique.

Un studio de théâtre à l'Université Carnegie Mellon porte son nom.

Son premier film en tant que réalisateur The Company Men avec notamment Ben Affleck, Tommy Lee Jones, Kevin Costner et Chris Cooper est sorti le 30 mars 2011.
