Yonathan ben Ouzziel (יונתן בן עוזיאל) est connu pour être, selon la tradition talmudique[1], l'auteur d'un Targoum des Nevi'im[2]. Il était l'un des 80 Tannaïtes disciples de Hillel Hazaken[3].

En référence au Talmud, il a donné son nom au Targoum des Prophètes qui est toujours utilisé dans certaines liturgies, mais en réalité de sérieux doutes subsistent quant à savoir si le Targoum rédigé par ben Ouzziel est bien ce dernier[2].

On dit aussi qu'il aurait écrit un livre de la Kabbale connu sous le nom de Megadnim.

Sa tombe se trouve à Amuka, en Galilée, près de Safed (Israël) et est un important lieu de pèlerinage. Traditionnellement, ceux qui n'ont pas d'époux se rendent à cet endroit afin de recevoir sa bénédiction et trouver ainsi un partenaire. Le Talmud (Sukkah 28a) dit que tandis qu'il était absorbé dans l'étude de la Torah, si un oiseau passait au dessus de sa tête il s'enflammerait ; il s'agit peut-être une métaphore pour affirmer qu'il était impossible à un érudit de concevoir une opinion différente de la sienne.
