Joseph John Ellis (1943- ) est un historien américain qui remporta le Prix Pulitzer en 2001 pour son ouvrage Founding Brothers: The Revolutionary Generation. Il fit ses études au College of William and Mary puis à Yale dont il sort diplômé en 1969. Il enseigna à West Point jusqu'en 1972 lorsqu'il rejoignit l'univeristé du Mount Holyoke.
