Valérie June Carter Cash (23 juin 1929 - 15 mai 2003) née dans le comté de Scott en Virginie, était une chanteuse de musique country américaine.

Fille de la célèbre chanteuse Maybelle Carter, elle fait partie de la famille Carter, première grande famille de la musique country. Elle est l'épouse de Johnny Cash pendant trente-cinq ans : ils ont ensemble un fils du nom de John Carter Cash, né le 3 mars 1970. Leur mariage est également le témoignage d'une union entre deux grands musiciens qui enregistrèrent ensemble tout au long de leur vie. June Carter mourut quatre mois avant son célèbre mari.

Décès

June Carter Cash décède à Nashville, Tennessee, de complications cardiaques le 15 mai 2003 à l'âge de 73 ans^[1]. Johnny Cash la suit le 12 septembre 2003^[2], et la seconde fille de June, Rosie, meurt cinq mois plus tard (le 24 octobre 2003)^[3].

Awards

En 1999, elle gagne un Grammy Award pour son album Press On. Son dernier album, Wildwood Flower, est sorti posthume en 2003. Elle gagna avec ce dernier deux autres Grammys. Elle a été classée 31^e au CMT's 40 Greatest Women in Country Music en 2002.

Cinéma

June est interprétée par Reese Witherspoon dans le film Walk the Line inspiré de la vie de Johnny Cash (interprété par Joaquin Phoenix). Ce rôle lui à valu l'oscar de la meilleure actrice.
