Khamsin

Le khamsin, kamsin ou chamsin (arabe: خمسين, khamsīn or khamseen) est un vent de sable brûlant qui souffle du désert d'Égypte à Israël. Son nom signifie « cinquantaine » parce qu'il est censé ne souffler que pendant une cinquantaine de jours au printemps.

C'est un vent sec, chaud et très poussiéreux, au souffle brûlant des déserts du Sud-est de l'Égypte au sud d'Israël. À la vitesse de 150 km/h, il arrache les feuilles des arbres et donne au ciel une teinte orange foncé ; l'air se charge de poussière ce qui rend la respiration oppressante. Il provoque quelques violents orages.

Histoire

Dans l'Égypte antique, il est symbolisé par le dieu Seth. Dans l'Israël antique, si quelqu'un commettait un meurtre durant le khamsin, il n'était pas poursuivi pour meurtre. [réf. nécessaire]
