Large Synoptic Survey Telescope
Le Large Synoptic Survey Telescope (LSST) est un grand télescope dont la construction devrait débuter en 2009 et s'achever en 2012. Le télescope se situera sur le Cerro Pachón, une montagne nord-chilienne située à 2680 mètres d'altitude.
Le LSST sera constitué de trois miroirs : un miroir primaire de 8,4 mètres de diamètre, un miroir secondaire convexe de 3,4 m – le plus grand miroir convexe jamais construit – et un miroir tertiaire de 5 m. La résolution des photographies prises par la caméra CCD sera de 3,2 Gpixels.
