Un lamprophyre est une roche magmatique filonienne à texture microgrenue. Cette roche est caractérisée par les présence de beaucoup de mica noir et/ou d'amphibole brune avec de l'olivine, des feldspaths, des clinopyroxènes. Il en existe trois formes : calc-alcalins, alcalins et mélilitiques.
La composition des lamprophyres est variable allant du granite au basalte.
Variétés
On trouve ces roches en filon de quelques centimètres à quelques mètres d'épaisseur dont le cœur contient parfois des enclaves. Ces filons sont associés à des granitoïdes, des syénites ou des basaltes.
