Le Thou est une commune française, située dans le département de la Charente-Maritime et la région Poitou-Charentes. Ses habitants sont les Tholusiens et les Tholusiennes. Le Thou est situé dans la deuxième couronne de La Rochelle.

La commune comporte de nombreux hameaux et écarts : Charmeneuil, Cigogne, La Gare, Le Chiron, La Gravelle, La Folie, La Preuille, St Sorlin, Borderie, Chaumes, Mont d’or, Merluzine, Piedjoint, Piquefesse...
Histoire
Terre haute (16 à 47 mètres) entre deux zones de marais, Le Thou a toujours été un lieu de rencontres et de passage vers la mer comme en témoignent les sites archéologiques.
