Learjet est un constructeur aéronautique spécialisé dans la construction de petits appareils d'affaires. Il a été racheté par le canadien Bombardier, en 1990.

Historique

En 1959, William P. Lear fonde en Suisse la Swiss American Aviation Corporation. Elle déménage en 1962 à Wichita (Kansas, USA) pour développer la fabrication d'avions à réaction à usage privé, et sera renommée en 1963 'Lear Jet Corporation'.

Le premier modèle fut le LearJet 23 Continentals, basé sur la structure d'un avion à réaction suisse, le AFA P-16.

En 1978, l'astronaute Neil Armstrong établit plusieurs records d'altitude avec le Learjet Modèle 28.

La société Gates Learjet a été rachetée par Bombardier en 1990.

Le Learjet 60 naît en 1993 succédant au modèle 55 de 1979, et le Learjet 45 en 1995.
