Peter A. Levine, né en 1942, est un psychologue et psychothérapeute américain. Spécialiste de la thérapie des traumatismes psychiques, il a fondé le Somatic Experiencing®.

Biographie

Docteur en biophysique médicale (Université de Californie à Berkeley) et en psychologie (Université Internationale), Peter Levine a été consultant en matière de stress pour la NASA durant le développement de la première navette spatiale. Il était membre de l'Institute of World Affairs Task Force (groupe de travail d'affaires mondiales avec des « psychologues pour la responsabilité sociale ») et travaillé pour l'initiative d'APA: réponse à la catastrophe de large échelle et à la guerre ethno-politique. Il fait partie du corps enseignant distingué de l'Institut de Santa Barbara en Californie.

Il est l'auteur du bestseller Réveiller le tigre, guérir du traumatisme (édité dans vingt langues) et le co-auteur de Trauma through a Child’s Eyes, Awakening the Ordinary Miracle of Healing (« Trauma à travers les yeux d'un enfant, réveiller le miracle ordinaire de la guérison ») et Trauma-Proofing Your Kids, A Parents Guide for Instilling Confidence, Joy and Resilience (« Imperméabiliser vos enfants des traumatismes, un guide pour les parents pour inculquer la confiance en soi, joie et résilience »).
