Star Trak Entertainment

Star Trak Entertainment est un label musical spécialisé dans le hip-hop, fondé en 2002 par Pharrell Williams et Chad Hugo. Star Trak Entertainment travaille en collaboration avec Interscope Records et Universal Music Group.

Histoire

Commencement

Star Trak Entertainment a été fondé en 2002 par The Neptunes, duo composé de Pharrell Williams et Chad Hugo. Le label a été partiellement fondé en collaboration avec Arista Records. Pharrell y a signé ses amis de longues date, Clipse, Le duo des frères Malice et Pusha-T. Leurs premiers album, Lord Willin', est sorti en 2002 avec les morceaux "Grindin'," et "When the Last Time". Après le succès de cet album, la chanteuse Kelis signa un contrat avec le label, Vanessa Marquez, FAM-LAY, N.E.R.D., et le groupe pop rock Spymob,qui a participé à l'instrumental pour le premier album de N.E.R.D In Search Of.... Durant l'été 2003 sortit une compilation initulé The Neptunes Present... Clones. Fin 2003, Star Trak produisit l'album a succesTasty,de Kelis, avec la chanson Milkshake comme morceau promotionnel." Debut 2004, Star Trak abandonna Arista pour se joindre à Virgin Records. La première production fut Fly or Die des N.E.R.D..

Collaboration avec Snoop

Vers le mi-2004, Star Trak signe avec une filiale de EMI, Doggystyle Records pour une distribution à un plus grande échelle avec le vétéran du rap,Snoop Dogg. Quelques mois plus tard, Star Trak laissa tomber Virgin Records avant même d'avoir passée une année avec le label. Ils finirent par collaboré avec Geffen/Interscope. Là,ils produisent R&G (Rhythm & Gangsta): The Masterpiece de Snoop Doog. La promotion de cet album commença avec "Drop It Like Its Hot," qui devint rapidement une réussite pour le label, les autres morceaux promotionnels suivront le même chemin. Comme les autres productions de Star Trak,cet album deviendra disque de platine. Après la sortie de l'album,le label était dans une période ascendante et pouvait se permettre de dépenser de l'argent dans de nouveaux domaines, Star Trak signe donc Slim Thug, un rappeur de Houston qui sortira en 2005 son premier album Already Platinum. Cet album donna à Star Trak de nouveaux a succès avec les morceaux, "Like A Boss," et "I Ain't Heard of That."

Déclin

Après la sortie de l'album de Slim Thug, Geffen Records a été partiellement incorporé à Interscope Records, qui plaça Star Trak dans une contrat d'exclusivité avec Interscope Records, mettant ainsi un terme a l'association avec Geffen Records. Snoop Dogg décida de rester malgré tout. Pendant ce temps, le label ajouta Kenna et Robin Thicke à ses artistes.

Résurrection

En 2006, Pharrell lance son premier album, In My Mind. L'album The album provided another two hits for the label and capitilazed what is the Neptunes sound. Les singles qui en font la promotion sont"Can I Have It Like That," en duo avecGwen Stefani, et "Number One," en collaboration avec Kanye West. Robin Thicke sortit son deuxième album intituléThe Evolution of Robin Thicke en 2006, avec le titre "Lost Without U." Ce morceau fut une autre réussite pour le label perpétuant la réputation de "fabricant de hit" du studio. Clipse sortirent eux aussi leur deuxième album en 2006 Hell Hath No Fury, the album featured another hit for the label, "Mr. Me Too." This was their first release through their Re-Up Gang imprint. Because of constant delays on the album's release date, and a small amount of production, le faible nombre de ventes, Clipse asked for their release from the label moving their Re-Up Gang imprint to Columbia Records. Star Trak a depuis signé l'artiste Teyana Taylor to their roster, along with Chester French, Natasha Ramos, et Jack Venom. En 2007, Kenna sort son album, Make Sure They See My Face. Les productions de 2008 à venir sont celles des N*E*R*D, Teyana Taylor, Robin Thicke et Chester French.
