La médecine yunâni ou médecine unani tient son origine de l’alchimie occidentale médiévale et des méthodes thérapeutique de la Grèce antique. Yunâni signifie « grecque » dans beaucoup de langues orientales (Arabe, Hindoustânî, Persan, Tamil, etc). Le mot vient du grecque « Ionia », le nom grecque de la côte d'Asie mineure.
Développée par Hippocrate et Pythagore puis par Gallien. Les savants arabes, persans et juifs la reprennent. Les traités les plus importants sont principalement écrits en arabe. Les Arabes et les Persans firent connaitre la médecine yunâni en Inde et en Chine ainsi qu’en Espagne et en France méditerranéenne. C'était la médecine enseignée à la Facultés de Médecine de Montpellier.
De nos jours, elle occupe une grande place dans la médecine traditionnelle Ayurveda en Inde. L’Organisation mondiale de la santé a recensé et publié des livres et des traités sur la médecine yunâni.
