Le terme impotence (du latin impotentia, « impuissance, faiblesse ») désigne :
- L'état d'une personne impotente, c’est-à-dire se déplaçant avec grande difficulté, voire grabataire.
- Une impotence fonctionnelle :
- inaptitude à se servir d'un membre normalement, comme par exemple impossibilité de bouger un bras dans une paralysie (impotence d'origine nerveuse), impossibilité de tourner le cou dans un torticolis (impotence d'origine musculaire) ...
- impotence sexuelle ou impuissance. En anglais, le terme impotence est utilisé pour décrire l'impuissance.
