Yoshihiro Togashi (冨樫 義博, Togashi Yoshihiro?) est un auteur japonais de manga né le 27 avril 1966 dans la préfecture de Yamanashi.

Biographie

À 21 ans, il remporte le 34e prix Tezuka avec Buttobi Straight. Après quoi, il intègre le magazine Weekly Shōnen Jump et publie son premier manga, Tonda Birthday Present, en 1988. Pendant deux ans, il dessine plusieurs histoires courtes publiées en 1989 dans Ōkami nante kowakunai!! et une petite série en 4 tomes, Tende shōwaru kyūpiddo, en 1994.

En 1990, il commence sa première longue série, Yū yū hakusho, qui sera son premier véritable succès et se verra même adapté en anime. La série se termine en 1994 au bout de 19 volumes et Togashi commence une nouvelle série, Level E, 6 mois plus tard. Cette série de trois volumes a la particularité d'être entièrement conçue par Togashi, sans l'aide d'assistants.

En 1998, il revient avec une nouvelle série, Hunter × Hunter, qui connait très vite un immense succès autant au Japon qu'à l'étranger et devient une référence du genre shōnen. Hunter × Hunter comprend actuellement 29 volumes au Japon, et a connu une première adaptation en anime en 1999. Une nouvelle série animée de Hunter × Hunter est également prévue pour octobre 2011[1]

Il est marié depuis janvier 1999 avec Naoko Takeuchi, autre mangaka, connue notamment pour son œuvre Sailor Moon. Il a mentionné ce mariage dans le 5e tome de Hunter × Hunter. Dans le tome 11, il annonce la naissance de son premier fils, puis de son second enfant dans le tome 27.

Depuis quelque temps, l'auteur fait régulièrement des "pauses" dans la publication des chapitres de Hunter × Hunter. Le chapitre 310 a été prépublié en mai 2010, alors que le chapitre 311 a été prépublié seulement en août 2011.

En janvier 2011, sa série Level E est adaptée en série animée.

Hunter × Hunter

Au départ, il comptait faire une dizaine, voire une vingtaine de volumes pour la série Hunter × Hunter. Aujourd'hui, ce nombre est dépassé au Japon, et l'auteur ne semble pas vouloir s'arrêter. Il a fait un voyage en Égypte, ce qui semble lui avoir inspiré deux membres de la brigade fantôme : Phinks, portant une coiffe de pharaon, et Bonorenof, déguisé en momie.
